CYBERCRIMES AND CYBER LAWS IN INDIA The internet had benefits and drawbacks, just like any other invention in human history. The founders had no idea that their work would one day be used to injure and destroy someone. Today, there are many harmful things happening online. Cybercrime is the term for using the internet with malicious intent. There is no legal definition of "cybercrime" in India. However, in a broader sense, it may refer to any illegal conduct carried out online, where a computer may be both a tool and a target. These crimes are occasionally conducted to make money, occasionally to harm software, and occasionally to introduce malware into a system that quickly spreads to the entire network by infecting other computers. The Indian Penal Code, 1860 governs conventional crimes including theft, fraud, mischief, forgery, and defamation, while the Information Technology Act of 2000 governs newer offences like cybercrime.
